With decarbonise you can calculate and compensate your CO₂ emissions
decarbonise wants to create awareness for your CO₂ balance and tries to inspire you, reducing your footprint.
The overall package is convincing! I'm looking forward to an APP for my mobile phone.
decarbonise convinces me because it is intuitive and easy to use and I can relate to the projects
I think it's great that decarbonise not only supports projects in developing countries, but also sets a main focus on regional projects
CO₂ compensation means: CO₂ emissions caused by your car trip or a flight, for example, are withdrawn from the atmosphere at the same level elsewhere. By investing in projects such as the planting of trees or the renaturation of moors, CO₂ can be permanently bound at this point and removed from the so-called greenhouse effect. In order to actively protect the climate, you should try to emit less CO₂ by flying and driving less, aiming for more low-CO₂ transport (bicycle, train, public transport) and shopping more consciously. For emissions that you cannot prevent, CO₂ compensation is a very effective means of climate protection.
Different activities cause different amounts of CO₂. Every type of compensation calculation at decarbonise takes into account the CO₂ released for the respective activity (as well as other greenhouse gases released). Our calculations are based on scientific studies, findings from the Federal Environment Agency, other authorities and specialized institutions.
In the public debate one often speaks of CO₂ when it comes to the greenhouse effect. However, other gases such as methane have an even greater effect per unit of mass on the climate. To quantify the effect, the effect of other gases is converted into CO₂ equivalents. Our compensation calculations take this into account and accordingly also cover other greenhouse effect-relevant gases. This means that the effect on the climate and the necessary compensation for compensation can be mapped as realistically as possible.
With decarbonise you can support hand-picked regional and international projects. Here seals and certificates from various independent institutions of our offered projects signal that the positive climate effect has been proven. In addition to classic compensation projects, decarbonise also promotes research into technologies that completely prevent the emission of CO₂ (example: synthetic fuels). However, this is not a compensation in the classic sense, but an investment in a potential future emission reduction.
We are constantly looking for effective and well thought-out projects at home and abroad. In addition to the personal selection of the projects, it is important to us that a neutral institution also certifies the effectiveness of the project.
decarbonise offers a reliable calculation of CO₂ emissions from common activities as well as a selection of projects to ensure sustainable compensation. We offer user-friendly options to enable users to compensate safely, comfortably and fairly.
decarbonise has costs for maintaining the website, payment partners and processing activities. Therefore, in addition to the compensation amount, an expense fee of 20% of the compensation value is charged to cover the running costs. If surpluses remain after all direct costs have been covered, these are fully invested in the projects offered.
We use average values from the Federal Environment Agency with different wagon categories. You can choose from three different car classes, depending on which fuel consumption is closest to your car. However, the average value can differ from the actual consumption of your car. We would be happy to calculate your actual CO₂ emissions.
We are working on further variants of how you can compensate decarbonise directly in the future. We would be happy to calculate your personal annual consumption for you. Please write to us directly.
Depending on the location and form of CO₂ compensation, different costs are incurred in the projects. We have shown the specific costs per ton of CO₂ on the individual project pages. A comparable amount has been defined for research projects. The specific effect of research projects on CO₂ compensation cannot be specifically determined.
